The BLO
Critical Need

My husband and I took BC to the Big Latch On in Indianapolis today. The event is where women and their babies (and other supporters) gather in particular locations and simultaneously latch their babies for one minute. The goal is to break the record of the most women breastfeeding in the world, create awareness of community breastfeeding resources, and to normalize breastfeeding. In order for your latch to "count" your baby had to be on the breast for the entire one minute. It was a fun and quirky way to spend a morning and nice to be with a group of fellow milk machines and boob-feeders. Never mind the fact that BC did not latch for the entire minute (not even close, in fact). We'll try again next year.

I have the privilege of leading an incredible extended family under the name of A.C.T. Community Church.  Truly some of the coolest people I know are a part of this family and as often as we can we have what we call our Serve Sunday.  It’s where we come together at our regular gathering time and we find a way to impact our community in a positive way.  From providing food and supplies to some folks down on their luck, to surprising kids in the local children’s hospital with presents, to preparing a home for a family to be all together again, the list goes on and on and I am proud to be a part of this wonderful group of people.

Last year my friend, Jerri, helped our community put on a blood drive for the American Red Cross and it was a huge success!  I am so pleased that tomorrow we will once again be doing what we can to help, as the need for donors is greater than ever.  So today SJ, 3.0 and 4.0 spent the entire day running around gathering items for the, now annual, blood drive.  SJ was a real trooper.  He managed to find ways to entertain himself when he was awake and slept a lot as we went from place to place.

Thank God babies are portable!

P.S. If you are able to give blood, find a donation site and go!  You can save up to three lives by donating once!!!  For more information check out http://www.redcrossblood.org/
